Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Paws and Claws different from companies like Wag and Rover?
Paws and Claws has extensive knowledge on how to keep your pets safe and happy, time-tested since 2013! Our priority is building long term relationships with our clients, with a personal touch. This starts with a phone call where you are matched to your ideal sitter or walker. While you may find a great pet sitter through Wag or Rover, it’s often a gamble because there is no real way for these companies to regulate pet sitters, and how pets are cared for. With Paws and Claws, there won’t be any gambling or guesswork in finding a great sitter. Paws and Claws does all the work to ensure your cat sitter or dog walker is amazing, and that we’ll have all the details we need.
How do I know I can trust the cat sitter or dog walker I’m working with?
Our sitters and dog walkers are very carefully chosen. We have a detailed, multi-layer hiring process that examines not only the background check, but also customer service skills, reliability, attention to detail, and of course, how good they are with animals! Our special hiring process can spot a great pet sitter from miles away, and has been proven over and over. This is the reason why so many of our clients say their Paws and Claws sitter is the best they’ve ever had! We are also fully insured and bonded, so your pets and home are always protected.
Am I going to meet my pet sitter before I leave my pet with them?
Yes, we require an in-person Meet and Greet with both the pet and the owner before the service begins. This ensures safety and that your service goes smoothly. This is also a sort of “practice” session to address any potential issues that may not be resolved over email or phone, like sticky locks, or a very shy or excited pet. If dog walks are involved, your walker will also learn the best places to take your dog, and their favorite sniff spots. This first Meet and Greet is complimentary.
My pet has special needs/medical issues. How do I make sure they get the extra care they need?

We have lots of experience with medical issues like skin allergies, thyroid issues, diabetes, GI issues, etc. If your pet needs meds and special care for a medical condition, you will have the chance to fill out the dose and frequency on your online account, and we will review the best way to provide treatment at the Meet and Greet. If you are concerned about possible behavior issues while you’re away, you will have the chance to form a plan during your Meet and Greet, and are also encouraged to book a couple “practice” visits with your sitter to make sure all goes smoothly. Please note, we do not work with animals that are known to have aggressively bitten or attacked people or other animals.

How do I get a hold of my cat sitter or dog walker while I’m away?
Our app and website make it super easy to leave messages for your sitter, and they’ll receive and see them as easily as a text message! The major advantage over texting is that all details will also be seen by our office and (if needed) the back-up sitter, so whoever needs to know about your pet can stay in the loop.
What if my cat sitter or dog walker gets sick/has an emergency and can’t visit my pet?

Since all your pet’s care details will be stored on your account, this makes it possible for another of our sitters to fill in for your primary sitter if an emergency happens. In these cases, we will notify you of the situation and send another sitter with your consent. For regular, daily dog walking clients, we will assign a backup walker for your dog, who can fill in when your primary walker can’t make it.

How do I request and pay for the service?

You can easily book services on the app, as well as in the client portal! A credit card must be saved on your account in order to book services, and will be automatically charged when payment is due. If you’re happy with your sitter or walker, you can also leave a tip afterwards!

How long are your dog walks and drop-in visits?
For daytime visits and dog walks, our most popular option is the 30 minute visit. Does your pet need more than that? We also offer 45 and 60 minute options, and even longer if you’ll be gone a while! We are also happy to provide multiple visits per day. Overnight pet sitting services begin with dinner for your pet,, and provide everything they need until breakfast the next morning; the specific start and end times may vary depending on your pet’s needs.
I’m ready to sign up with Paws and Claws! How do I get started as a client?

It always starts with a phone call! Book an Intro Call at a time that works for you to review your pet’s needs, and make sure that Paws and Claws is the best option for you. Soon after, you’ll be provided a link to create your online account and download our app.
